Cygnus 1 Ex for Corrosion Inspection
Storage structures such as storage tanks and pipelines constantly exposed to fluids, chemicals, or heat are highly susceptible to corrosion. To mitigate this, storage structures are often coated with protective coatings. However, these protective coatings present obstacles to corrosion monitoring and inspection. To combat this issue, Cygnus Surface Range of Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges (UTGs) all read through coatings of up to 20mm thick – which means there is no need to remove the protective coatings or epoxy that safeguard against corrosion. Moreover, Cygnus gauges work with a selection of Cygnus’ single-crystal and twin-crystal probes to suit varying corrosion levels and different materials.
In terms of safety, regular maintenance is a top priority for industries handling hazardous materials or operating in explosive atmospheres, such as oil and gas refineries and terminals. The Cygnus 1 Ex ultrasonic thickness gauge, designed for use in all hazardous Gas Zones (0, 1, 2), is not only safe to use but also certified Intrinsically Safe to Zone 0 (the most dangerous area) for ATEX, IECEx and UKEX.
Another advantage of the 1 Ex’s Intrinsic Safety (IS) design is that this UTG can perform testing safely within hazardous areas without the need for a Hot Work Permit or plant shutdown, making it ideal for asset integrity maintenance in potentially explosive environments.

Hatch Sure for Testing Tightness or Leakage
Over time, the structural integrity of storage facilities may deteriorate, resulting in seal fatigue and leakage. The Cygnus Hatch Sure Ultrasonic Tightness Tester is an environmentally friendly and vastly more efficient solution than conventional testing methods such as host testing and visual inspection. Its powerful, robust transmitter contains 19 ultrasound emitters (40 kHz) with six adjustable power levels to suit various sizes of test areas, including confined spaces. This ultrasonic leak detection system is extremely lightweight and easy to transport with a rucksack-style carry case and neck and wrist straps for hands-free operation.
Cygnus Hatch Sure is designed for easy and quick one-man operation without needing a team of inspection specialists. With minimal training, an operator can test watertight doors, closing appliances and storage facilities for seal tightness and leakage effectively and efficiently. Moreover, the inspection can be carried out without clearing the space. This ultrasonic tightness / leak detection system enables regular inspections and prevents costly maintenance and repairs.
