In terms of safety, regular maintenance is a top priority for industries handling hazardous materials or operating in explosive atmospheres, such as oil rigs, FPSOs or FSOs. The Cygnus 1 Ex ultrasonic thickness gauge, designed for use in all hazardous Zones (0, 1, 2), is not only safe to use but also certified Intrinsically Safe to Zone 0 (the most dangerous area) for ATEX, IECEx and UKEX. Structural integrity hazards such as corrosion pose a critical threat to any assets. Marine structures and vessels like LNG or LPG tankers, are constantly exposed to moisture in the air and salt water, which are known to cause and accelerate corrosion. To mitigate this, marine vessels are coated with protective coatings. However, these protective coatings present obstacles to corrosion monitoring and inspection. To combat this, the Cygnus-pioneered Multiple Echo technology can measure just the thickness of the substrate material under test and ignore any protective coatings. This effectively eliminates the time and cost of removing anti-corrosive coatings while avoiding the risk of exposing the material to further corrosion. Moreover, the Cygnus 1 Ex gauge works with a selection of Cygnus’ single-crystal and twin-crystal probes to suit varying corrosion levels and different materials. Additionally, the Cygnus High-Temperature Ex probe enables continuous thickness measurement on hot assets without a shutdown or isolation.
